New York Knicks: 5-0 (2-0 on the road)
San Antonio Spurs: 7-1 (3-0 at home)
Head-to-Head: First Meeting
TV: MSG
big game…. biggggg game.
Going to agree with mostly everyone out there when they say this is the first “real test” the Knicks are running up against tonight. San Antonio, right now, is the best team in the West. A win would solidify in everyone’s mind, including the media and other teams in the league (most fans are already convinced), that the Knicks are for real this season.
But, a loss isn’t the end of the world obviously. If we compete (defend) for the entire night, I’ll still feel like we’re headed in the right direction. It really is “how” we play tonight I’m most interested in.
By the way, the Knicks haven’t won in San Antonio since 2003.
What I’ll Be Watching:
- Rebounding - realized after the last game, we’re not that great in this category. Guess what? Neither are the Spurs. The Knicks rank 26th in the league in rebounding, the Spurs rank 28th. Let me remind you, there are only 30 teams total. I’m guessing, whoever wins the battle of the boards, wins tonight.
- Tony Parker vs. Ray Felton - really great matchup at the point guard position tonight. I’m a big fan of both guys, so will be great to see them go at each other.
- Controlling Tim Duncan - Will Duncan ever be not good? Up to Tyson/Wallace/Camby to slow him down.
In many ways, we’re just like San Antonio this season. The rebounding for one. But, both are built around a core few guys with a good mix of young talent and veteran leadership. Both rely on making the extra pass and both are priding themselves on defense.
It will be a good one tonight. I say the losing streak ends. Knicks push to 6-0.
Betting Line: Spurs by 5.0 (O/U 194.0)
My Prediction: Knicks 97, Spurs 91
Prediction Record: 4-1
