Knicks Suffocate Pacers, Improve to 7-1
Final Score: Knicks 88, Pacers 76
Record: 7-1 (1st in Atlantic, 1st in Eastern Conference)
Current Streak: Won 1
After a sluggish start, the Knicks sprinted passed the Pacers to remain undefeated at the Garden.
Horrible shooting from both teams in the first quarter. Only Ray Felton and Carmelo had it going of the 10 guys on the floor.
The key to the Knicks success so far this season has been defense (the Knicks are committing very few fouls, a sign of playing D with your feet and not your hands) and taking care of the basketball (low turnovers - 8 today, averaging 10 on the season). When you have those two going, good things will happen.
Side note: Whenever the Knicks have less than 13 turnovers in a game, the coaching staff has to do sprints at practice. I guess that’s what is motivating this team? haha.
Three to See:
- David West vs. Carmelo Anthony - the Knicks handled Indiana’s size beautifully. Whenever West was on the post, Jason Kidd came over and doubled. Tyson, Sheed and Camby were enough to contain Hibbert. You read that right, Camby played and he played well.
- Three point shooting - Second game in a row that 3-pt shooting wasn’t so great. This time it didn’t matter because the Pacers sucked from the field… but we’ll need that to come back eventually.
- Sub 90 - held the Pacers to 76 point. Gotta love it. Just so happy the Knicks have a defensive identity again.
Nice bounce back win today.
@Hornets Tuesday night.
KNOTEWORTHY KNICK OF THE GAME: I know Ray Felton had a pretty solid game, but Ronnie Brewer had a helluva day. Not so much on the stat sheet, but the guy was after every loose ball. I’ll say it again, most underrated pick up of the offseason - 8 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists
